An intentional camp experience designed to facilitate racial reconciliation
For youth who have completed grades 9-12

The Jesus Code:3,208=1 will be comprised of a mix of African American, European American and other American youth. This camp experience will also address the barriers that lead towards discrimination and racism, and how we can change our thoughts and actions. The main purpose of the camp is to tear down the racial divides faced by future leaders of the Lutheran Church. Also, we’ll strive to give our youth the tools needed to dismantle racism within ourselves, our congregations and our communities.

This camp experience provides an opportunity for youth (living at camp) and parent(s) (living at home) to redefine and strengthen their relationships through immersion in a faith based, service environment. Each experience is customized to fit the need of the family, but will include structured methods for the parent and youth to redevelop their relationship through phone conversations, Internet chats, and an occasional joint service project in which the youth will lead the visiting parent(s). The experience is meant to help the youth find his or her voice in establishing the goals and direction of their lives while helping the parents to become active voices of love and encouragement. Costs and length of the experience are varied according to interviews with parents and child and the resulting custom designed program. The experience can last up to 9 weeks.

This program prepares high school seniors or recent graduates to be future camp counselors. During the training week, CIT participants will learn about the camp of their choice and the programs they offer. They will also explore the basics about caring for campers and serving as a future counselor. The second week of the experience will be co-ordinated with the camp director to serve as a junior counselor in a confirmation or elementary camp program. If you’ve thought to yourself “I want to come back and be a counselor,” this is a great place to start!
