Summer Curriculum for Challengers Camp Groups

For our Challengers Camp program, congregations typically plan and lead an hour-long Bible study each camp day. The resources below are from our summer curriculum and will aid in your development of Bible studies that fit with our daily themes and activities.

The overall theme for this week is “Discovering Our Identity and Purpose Through God’s Creation.” The curriculum is developed by the National Council of Churches and published by Chalice Press for use in camps and outdoor ministries and customized for LWM by Jesse Barr, our Program Innovator.

Each day builds on the Genesis creation narrative, incorporates Gospel lessons and ties it to aspects of campers’ personal faith journeys:

  • Day 1 – Invited by Light focuses on God’s light as an invitation and Jesus as the light of the world, encouraging campers to recognize and share their own inner light.
  • Day 2 – Refreshed by Water emphasizes living water and spiritual renewal, highlighting inclusivity and compassion across boundaries.
  • Day 3 – Shaped Like Earth explores our connection to nature and how God shapes us, grounding our identity in being made from the earth.
  • Day 4 – Purpose for Humanity teaches that we are made in God’s image and entrusted with a divine purpose as caretakers of creation.
  • Day 5 – Inspired by Creation reflects on rest, creativity, and sending forth, empowering campers to live out what they’ve learned.

The theme unites creation, identity, transformation, and mission, helping campers see how God’s story of creation is also a story about them.
